Rena Summers is beautiful, charming, talented and passionate; her unique style is endeared by her fans across the country. This blonde hair blue eyed of Cherokee Indian descent dreamt of becoming an entertainer. She has the drive and the focus to live the dream. As her talents unfolded to include the musical side of performing, she was a believer that dreams do come true.
Rena was raised in a near-poverty area of rural Illinois, the second oldest of four and the only girl. She learned at an early age to stand on her own, defending herself and working hard to accomplish what she wanted out of life. Rena tried to always look on the brighter side of things. She knew that her faith in God would carry her through the trials she encountered during her life time.
Growing up, Rena migrated with her family from small town to small town, wherever her father could find work. It was in Kingsport, Tennessee that she gained a true love of country music living in a culture steeped in tradition.
Rena's passion for music motivated her to form a band. She and her three best friends Debbie, Leann & Kim impressed their family, friends and the growing fan base. They sang Donna Summer songs, "We Are Family" type music from the 70s & 80s. They were the hit of the neighborhood. Entertaining choreography & song with costume changes and cover charges of a nickel set the stage for Rena's exciting career. After those early gigs with her friends, she turned to performing in local churches - sometimes for more than 15,000 during Sunday services. Her Southern Baptist upbringing was instrumental and the spirit in her voice which eventually led her to follow her dream. "Music has been my passion all my life," says Rena. "I love all styles of music, especially Country with a Rock and Roll flavor." Her music is Contemporary Country with a little Rock and roll and some Pop. Its fun, it's upbeat, she feels there is something for everyone of her fans.
It wasn't until she moved to St. Louis in her early 20's that she felt that truly inspirational musical influence. It was this influence that is reflected in Rena's music today. Writing her own songs gives a feel for her attitude in life today. She has written a song about her children that any mother, sister, brother, daughter, or son would appreciate. It's a reflection of her life with her children. She always wants her children to know how much she misses them when she is away from home. The passion and true emotion Rena has for her family and children is reflected in her song "Love Mom". Those who hear it call it "spectacular!" This song is for everyone who reflects on their childhood. It's a one of a kind... Get those tissues boxes out! Don't hold back your tears and get ready!
Some of the other tracks have a bit of a sassy side to them; one that reflects a side of Rena’s personality. She is fun loving and has such an incredible energy about herself. She has one of those addictive personalities, once you get to know her you want to know more. You’ll discover that Rena has a beautiful heart. She’s a class act, always willing to go the extra mile.
Her love for all types of music has inspired her to write more than half the tracks on her CD. The lyrics to each song are especially motivational to women. Rena says, "No matter what your age, your race, or your financial status, be strong, have faith and go for what you want and never stop till you get it."
Rena is no newcomer to the Nashville music scene. She is co-writing her album with her producer Mark Oliverious (producer for Lorrie Morgan), OMG Nashville. Mark says "this project rocks!" Kelly Lang also co-wrote two of her songs, "Love Mom" and "One Night at a Time". There are ten tracks on the CD and the music gives you a true feel of Rena's past and present life. The musicians include world-class drummer Brian Fullen (Shania Twain, SheDaisy, Bob Carlisle), Grammy award winning bassist Chris Kent (Lorrie Morgan, Larry Carlton and Paul Brandt), Danny Parks (Acoustic Guitar -- Brooks & Dunn, Toby Keith), Jerry Kimbrough (Electric Guitar), Mike Johnson (Steel), Hank Singer (Fiddle), Brittany Allyn (Lorrie Morgan, Toby Keith) and Thom Flora (Reba McEntire) on background vocals.
